AdHacks

With her ongoing ‘AdHack’ series, Stephanie uses salvaged ads as her canvas, painting her own whimsical additions directly onto them to critique duplicitous aspects of consumer culture and the constructs of advertising. Using farce to undermine the pervasive power and influence they wield, she shifts and subverts ad content from being manipulative and insidious to hilarious and absurd, and transforms the viewer/advertiser relationship from predatorial to empowering.

All of these used to be actual advertisements that adorned our street-scapes. Drastically improved by my creative additions, they tell a much improved story of the products they are peddling. Most of the pieces are 47”x68” and are available for purchase.

Adhack Workshops

I’ve started facilitating AdHack workshops at events around the city. In the “before times” I had them at such art and cultural events as Big on Bloor, the Wavelength Summer Music and Art Festival, Long Winter, TD Art Days at MOCA, and the PULP: Paper Art Party. Participants love getting to create art and see ads through a whimsical, educational and empowering lens. Contact me if you’d like your very own AdHack workshop!

Big Ad Workshops

Sometimes I lead workshops where participants can make their own large-scale AdHacks, like these here!
